Description
A section of Mounts Bay coastline viewed from Church Cove Gunwaloe.
The Old Poldhu Hotel, now a care home, on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall sits proudly on the cliffs above Poldhu Cove.
It was built in 1899 and was home to workers at the nearby Poldhu Wireless Station where Guglielmo Marconi's transmitter for the first transatlantic radio message on 12 December 1901 was located.
Marconi himself stayed at the hotel as the visitors' book shows that he stayed there in May and August, 1901.
