Description
The view past the mining remains of Wheal Call engine house which formed part of Boswedden Mine in Kenidjack (or Nancherrow) Valley. The mines here worked the south side of the valley for tin throughout the 1800s.
It's hard to believe now that this peaceful location between Cape Cornwall and Botallack in the far west of Cornwall was home to five engine houses and the second largest water wheal in Britain by 1864, all run by the Treagaseal River, no more than a stream at this point today. It would have been so noisy and dirty.
