Description
The remains of The Basset Copper Minesnear Carnkie in Cornwall.
Wheal Basset, West Wheal Basset and South Wheal Francis were amalgamated in 1896, mainly due to several boundary disputes caused by miners accidentally crossing into the sett of a neighbouring mine. The copper which was mined through the 18th and 19th centuries had been exhausted and tin was mined until the mines closed in 1918.
