Description
Fishing was always a vital part of the Cornish way of life and in the 18th and 19th Century, pilchard fishing was a major industry. Throughout the summer months large shoals of pilchards were caught off the Cornish coast.
This building perched above the beach at Fishing Cove between Porthleven and Gunwalloe was a pilchard cellar in 1787 where pilchards were processed before sale. It fell into disrepair and was a once a ruin but is now a luxurious holiday cottage.
In series 2 of Poldark, the stunning clifftop cottage was home to Dr. Dwight Enys.
