Description
St Ives in Cornwall has had a lifeboat station for well over 100 years, a lifeboat having been stationed here in 1840. In 1848 it was reported that the lifeboat was kept in a shed 400 yards from high water mark. The new boathouse and slipway seen here was constructed in 1994.
Built around 550 years ago the parish church, St Ia, is one of about 10 churches and chapels in the town.
The town of St Ives (Porth Ia) means the 'cove of St Ia' and it is little surprise that the town's first church should be dedicated to this Irish missionary.
