Description
Smeaton's Pier, with its two lighthouses, is one of the most photographed landmarks in Cornwall as it frames the town’s picturesque harbour in St Ives.
The pier is named after its designer, the civil engineer John Smeaton, who also designed Charlestown harbour. It was built between 1767 to 1770 then the Victorians designed the pier as it looks today.
There is still a small fishing fleet operating from the harbour although tourism, not fishing, is the main industry here now.
