Description
Feock Church South Porch with it's seven leg stocks.
At the south entrance to the churchyard in the village of Feock near Truro in Cornwall is a lych-gate with a room above it. Locally known as the Smuggler’s Vestry or the Schoolroom it is a room where parish meetings were formerly held.
The earliest record of a church at Feock is 12C, although it’s probable there was some sort of important religious site there before then. The font is dated 1130 and is the oldest artefact in the church. A Celtic cross stands in the churchyard near the south porch which has been dated 13C and the separate bell tower is also a survivor of the original church before it was was rebuilt and enlarged between 1840 and 1875.
