Description
Falmouth Harbour is one of the largest natural deep-water harbours in the world.
Set in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty the estuary offers up twelve miles of glorious water that stretches as far as the cathedral city of Truro with numerous creeks, wooded shorelines and quays to explore along the way.
Discovery Quay, known locally as Events Square is a vibrant part of Falmouth's waterfront. It was developed 10 years ago and now offers a great mix of shops, businesses, cafes and restaurants. The quay also houses the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, a centre of nautical excellence that attracts people of all ages with its award-winning exhibitions.
It is one of the key open air arenas in Falmouth and as such, plays a key role in helping to host Falmouth Week, Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival, Falmouth Spring Festival and Famouth Oyster Festival.
Ellen MacArthur became the fastest person to sail single-handed around the world, finishing in Falmouth and disembarking at Events Square on 7th Feb 2005.
