Description
Falmouth is one the best natural harbours in the South West.
Falmouth dock is the largest ship-repair complex in the UK with 3 large graving docks and extensive alongside deep water berthing providing capacity for vessels up to 100,000 tonnes.
The port is used by 40,000+ cruise passengers annually who see Falmouth as the gateway to Cornwall. Partnerships Falmouth has many long-term shiprepair partners, including P&O, Grimaldi, Condor, Gardline, Euroships, Stena UK and the Ministry of Defence.
For 150 years, Falmouth was the only place where the mail came in and out of the country in The Packet Ships. If you were the captain of one of the ships you would land at Customs House Quay. For 150 years, Falmouth was second only to London for knowing the news of the day.
In its heyday, 3000 ships a year passed through Falmouth. The ship agents doubled as consulates attending to the needs of ambassadors, adventurers, prosperous merchants and desperate refugees from practically every country on the globe.
