Description
The Helford Village pub is the thatched Shipwrights Arms, which was built as a farm, and was then transformed into an inn with rooms, and then into a traditional pub. Thatched cottages line the banks of the Helford River in this quaint and secluded hamlet on the south coast of Cornwall near Falmouth.
The village once was a thriving trading port, dealing in lace, rum and tobacco with duty collected in the old customs house. During the Napoleonic wars there were less “regulated” visitors in the form of pirates and free traders.
