Description
During winter storms, people visit the town of Porthleven on the south coast of Cornwall to watch the waves crashing into the cliffs and the Bickford-Smith Institute and on the 22nd December 2019 I joined them to watch in awe.
Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the United Kingdom and boasts a picturesque harbour, with some interesting old buildings. As the harbour faces south west into the prevailing wind the harbour construction and sea walls are massive but were still not enough to stop the force of the sea in February 2014 when waves smashed the barriers that protect the inner harbour, sinking many vessels.
