Description
The Golden Lion dates back to the 14th century and is the oldest inn in Padstow but belies its age on May Day.
May Day in Padstow on the north coast of Cornwall starts at midnight on 30th April, May Day Eve, when everyone gathers outside the Golden Lion Inn, stable of the Red 'Oss to start the night singing to the landlord, continuing their songs through the town. By morning, the town has been dressed with greenery and flowers placed around the maypole which is in the centre of the town.
At 8am with the local children leading their Obby ‘Osses through the town later followed by the “Blue Ribbon” ‘Oss which leaves its stable at Padstow Institute at 10am. The old ‘Oss appears outside the Golden Lion at 11am.
