Artist's Description
Pink mesembryanthemums flowering on the cliff at Polpeor above the old lifeboat station at Lizard Point in Cornwall.
The RNLI built its first Lizard lifeboat station in 1859 at a cost of £120. It was located on the cliffs above Polpeor Cove, the most southerly point of the Lizard peninsula.
Due to its location on the cliffs, the lifeboat had to be dragged on a carriage down the road to the beach. It took many to drag it down and many more to bring it back up. In 1885 a new station was built above the high water mark and it housed a larger lifeboat.
In subsequent years the boathouse changed to accommodate the upgraded lifeboats until a decision was taken to move the life boat station to the current site, Kilcobben Cove just around the cliffs because it was sufficiently protected to allow safe launches in all conditions.
About Terri Waters
Hello, I am Terri Waters, born in London UK in the last century, now happily settled in Mylor Bridge, Cornwall. Every morning when I pull back my curtains there is a whole new day asking to be explored and I can't wait to grab my camera, get on my bicycle and see where the road takes me. As a designer I venture into digital art every now and again. A change is as good as a rest for my legs and my bike. Sometimes an idea pops into my head from nowhere and I can't wait to produce an image to convey it to the outside world. Would you like your own photographs made perfect or your own works of art given a new twist for more variety of prints from your originals?
