Description
Next to the King Harry chain ferry, miles from the sea, on a pretty bend in the tree-lined River Fal, overlooked by a 15th-century pub-come-tea-room, Britain's only tea plantation and a beautiful stately home, sits a floating ghost city.
The River Fal lay-up facility, once seen to be a reliable barometer of world shipping trade, is almost empty again despite a high number of ships in lay-up around the world.
On this trip across the river only one ship, Lita, was moored, looming above all the little boats that travel up to the City of Truro from Falmouth.
The Fal estuary, which is also known as the Carrick Roads, reaches depths of up to thirty four meters and constitutes the third largest natural harbour in the world.
