Description
Looking over the old lime kiln.
The Lime Kiln on Breageside Porthleven built by Archibald Blair, a director of the Harbour and Dock Company. in 1814 and was used to burn rock lime.
Archibald Blair died shortly after completion and the kiln was then purchased by the Harbour and Dock Company
Porthleven in Cornwall once had a fleet of more than 100 drifters used to fish pilchard and mackerel. The unspoilt fishing village with its picturesque double harbour is protected by massive harbour walls and surrounded by fascinating old buildings. As the most southerly working port in the United Kingdom the harbour faces south west into the prevailing wind and during winter storms the waves crash over the sea defences attracting visitors to the town to watch, hear and taste the salty sea.
