This grumpy looking cattle egret was one of four I watched perched on an amazing tree near Truro.

A few years ago egrets were a rare sight in Cornwall but recently they are becoming more common, the little egret being the most common. Cattle egret are beginning to be spotted in greater numbers now but the great white egret is still a feather in a bird watchers cap.
Being the most southerly county in Britain we get more than our fair share of rare birds in autumn and spring from the Continent and even as far away as America and Asia as they migrate so it's always worth keeping an eye out for the rare visitors.
