Description
The original Newlyn harbour and quay with the fisherman's rest and the old town behind .
Prior to the nineteenth century only the area around the Old Quay, which dates back to at least 1337, was known as 'Newlyn'. The old Medieval Quay was rebuilt and extended in 1732 when it became too small for the boats but by 1883 it was clear that the Old Quay was once again too small for the still growing Newlyn fishing fleet. Two new piers and a new harbour now serve the still active Cornish fishing community.
