Artist's Description
Walking through College Wood in the Glasney Valley Penryn you can't miss the imposing viaduct above, the longest on the Falmouth branch line. Being on a curve and only single track it is very impressive.
It is 291 m (995 ft) long and has eleven arches with a maximum height of 30 m (100 ft).
The first stage of the Truro to Falmouth branch line was completed in 1863. The use of timber for the structure was on the suggestion of Isambard Kingdom Brunel to address the issue of expense. Somewhat ironic when you think that granite is one of the town's greatest exports.
The second stage of the viaduct was completed as recently as July 1934 and was the last timber viaduct to be converted to stone. The original piers remain as grade II listed structures and home to a variety of birds and other wildlife.
About Terri Waters
Hello, I am Terri Waters, born in London UK in the last century, now happily settled in Mylor Bridge, Cornwall. Every morning when I pull back my curtains there is a whole new day asking to be explored and I can't wait to grab my camera, get on my bicycle and see where the road takes me. As a designer I venture into digital art every now and again. A change is as good as a rest for my legs and my bike. Sometimes an idea pops into my head from nowhere and I can't wait to produce an image to convey it to the outside world. Would you like your own photographs made perfect or your own works of art given a new twist for more variety of prints from your originals?
