Description
The St Ives pilchard fishery was a substantial commercial operation, and became an important tourist attraction in Cornwall. However it started to die out in the late 1800's because the pilchard shoals stopped coming inshore and it had died out by the early 1900's.
Now, like many of the wharf buildings around the harbour, the old pilchard press has been turned into an ale house, serving the thirsty holiday makers that flock to Cornwall in their thousands every year.
