Description
The disused remains of the Great Carglaze China Clay Works near St Austell in Cornwall.
The Cornish Alps began to dominate the landscape as every ton of usable china clay that was mined brought with it five tonnes of waste.
These clay pits have been running from around 1966 onwards, moving from site to site for new and fresh ground to mine. The area had been an active clay pit until 2002 and is now just a fresh water provider for other quarries.
This area has not been used commercially for over 100 years, since when it has been allowed to return to nature.
