Description
There are many tiny cobbled streets and opes lined with historic cottages in St Ives in Cornwall. These days they are very colourful and charming but when they were built the town's main business was fishing life was a bit harder and the town was not so pretty.
The Digey is one of the most iconic streets in St Ives' Downalong district. The narrow cobbled street connects Fore Street, near the harbour with Back Road West near Porthmeor beach on the other side of the isthmus.
It is not certain where the name 'Digey' comes from but one theory is it comes from dye-chy meaning dye house, where the boat sails were dyed.
