Description
A short walk from Carn Brea Monument is Carn Brea Castle, once a shunting lodge owned by the Bassett family, now a restaurant.
Sitting on huge, uncut boulders its origins can be traced back to 1379 where it started life as a humble chapel to St Michael, one of Cornwall’s patron saints.
The stone twin towered fortress is inside the ramparts of the Iron Age hillfort and can be seen from miles around.
In the distance is the town of Redruth and on the horizon is St Austell. On a clear day like this the north and south coast of Cornwall is visible.
