Description
Dominating Mounts Bay is the spectacular St Michael's Mount, 500m off the Coast of Marazion in Cornwall, rises majestically from sea level to the tower, chapel and battlement of the castle 230 feet above.
The island, like most of Cornwall is a place of myth, legend and over a thousand years of incredible history. Once a fortress, a priory and a harbour it is now home to the modern St Aubyn family who can trace their roots on The Mount back to the 14th century.
At low tide a stroll across the granite cobbled causeway takes you on the path where a legendary giant once walked, later pilgrims and now summer visitors and locals alike.
At high tide it's a boat hop to the island where modern life meets layers of history within the grounds of a medieval castle with a sub-tropical paradise garden. Clinging to granite slopes the terraced beds tier steeply down to the ocean's edge, boasting tender exotics from places such as Mexico, the Canary Islands and South Africa.
