Description
Bournemouth's beautiful grade two listed Winter Gardens come alive at Christmas with the magical Gardens of Light festival featuring innovative, interactive and fun lighting installations designed to enchant visitors of all ages. An outdoor ice skating rink arrives to skate under the stars surrounded by light and colour A wonderful Christmas market with a Bavarian Market theme surrounds the Gardens and Santa’s Grotto nestles under the Bournmouth Balloon, a spherical helium-filled balloon with an enclosed gondola designed to carry 25-30 passengers. Tethered by a steel cable, the Balloon will gently float 500 feet above the beautiful Lower Gardens with a spectacular panoramic view of the English Channel and surrounding area for up to 20 miles from the highest public observation point in Bournemouth.
In the 1860’s, meadows either side of the Bourne stream were being turned into the town’s pleasure gardens. The immaculately tended gardens are still much-loved and the Central Gardens contain the town’s impressive war memorial, guarded by four lions.
Bournemouth Gardens run for two miles, following the Bourne Stream as it makes its way from the railway embankment at Branksome, where it emerges from a pipe, to the pier. Only as they reach the town centre for the final part of the journey do they approach ¼ mile wide.
