Description
St Clement, close to the Tresillian river and known in Cornish as Moresk, was once a massive parish encompassing parts of modern Truro but today it is a charming village with a cluster of houses and thatched cottages centred around the historic St. Clements Church.
The medieval church stands on a hill in the quiet hamlet on and is dedicated to St. Clement, who was a Roman citizen of noble birth. Whilst in Jerusalem, he was baptized by St Peter and became the third Pope of Rome.
Built in three stages, the killas stone tower has a date stone with the initials F.K.I. and 1326 although most of the present church building dates from 1865.
Crude gargoyles poke out from its corners and slate cover the bell openings.
So close to Cornwall’s capital city, Truro, yet feeling like it is a million miles away, surrounded by hills, farmland, creeks, peace and tranquillity, St Clement is the perfect place to be reminded of how beautiful Cornwall is.
