Description
Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire, England.
Salisbury is a very quaint medieval town in the west of England, overlooked by the Gothic Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The impressive main body of the cathedral was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.
The spire, the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (123m/404 ft), can be seen for miles around.
The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain (80 acres (320,000 m2)).
Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows was painted by John Constable in 1831 and the surrounding water meadow area has hardly changed.
