Description
The train journey to St Ives is one of the most scenic in Britain enjoying spectacular views as the line sweeps along the coast past the golden sands of Hayle Towans and Carbis Bay before reaching the end of the line in the station above Porthminster Beach in St Ives.
The Pedn Olva Hotel in Cornwall, situated between Porthminster Beach and St Ives harbour, was built on the site of an old copper mine. Pedn Olva Mine (also known as Pednolver Mine, North Wheal Providence) was active in the 1700's. Pedn Olva is Cornish and means 'lookout headland'.
The staircase of the engine house was reused in the building of the hotel and there is some suggestion that smugglers used to use the adit to hide barrels of brandy.
