Description
Before 1144 Looe Island, situated off the coast of West Looe in Cornwall, became home to a monastic order who constructed a chapel and used beacons as a rudimentary lighthouse.
In more recent years the island was owned by 2 sisters who have now left it to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
The island is normally only accessible by boat but on just a few days a year there is usually a tide low enough for the journey to be made by foot across the rocky sea floor.
