Description
Two working boats, Alf Smythers and Zilpha, racing past RFA Argus (A135) during The Fal Oyster Festival.
The principal role of RFA Argus is to serve as a Primary Casualty Receiving Ship (PCRS). She has a fully equipped 100-bed medical complex on board, which can be uniquely tailored to deliver cutting-edge treatment afloat.
The principle role of the Fal Working Boats is to dredge for oysters under sail or oar between Nov 1st and March 31st.
Native oysters grow freely in the shallow waters of the Carrick Roads between Falmouth and The Roseland.
Once the Oyster season has drawn to a close, the working boats are fulled rigged and can be seen in racing regattas most weekends.
