Description
Inside John's Shaft Pump Engine House, Tywarnhayle Mine.
Sitting proudly on the cliffs near Porthtowan is John's Shaft engine house that was built in 1861 to house a second-hand 70 inch pumping engine.
This mine started as Wheal Rock in 1750, renamed United Hills 1809, then became Tywarnhayle ('House on the Estuary') closing in 1907 after various reworkings.
