Description
An image of Carnon Valley in Cornwall during the snow in March 2018.
The Carnon Valley was the base of some of the oldest mining activity in the western world.
The valley trail follows the route of the old Redruth and Chacewater narrow-gauge mineral railway (or tramway), which opened in 1825, and included several branches. Other lines later completed the route all the way to Portreath.
Mining declined in the latter part of the 19th century so in 1915 the railway closed and the now peaceful valley was allowed to go back to nature.
