Description
This statue of Boudicca or Boadicea by Thomas Thornycroft (bronze - cast 1902) is to befound on Westminster Bridge in London on the parliament side near Westminster pier.
Boadicea was the female leader of the bloody revolt by Iceni Britons against Roman rule in Eastern England in AD60.
Boudicca won a great victory at Colchester in Essex which was called Camulodunum by the Romans and was the capital of Roman Britain, then again later at London - but she was finally defeated by a highly disciplined Roman army.
Boudicca died by taking poison after the defeat. The place of the final battle and her death are unknown...
