Description
Except for the colourful boats bobbing in the harbour, Portleven is empty on a sunny late afternoon. Normally the Harbour Inn and the benches outside would be full of people, but in 2020 travel restrictions meant the visitors couldn't come to Cornwall. Hopefully it will be bustling again soon.
Porthleven in Cornwall once had a fleet of more than 100 drifters used to fish pilchard and mackerel. The unspoilt fishing village with its picturesque double harbour is protected by massive harbour walls and surrounded by fascinating old buildings. As the most southerly working port in the United Kingdom the harbour faces south west into the prevailing wind and during winter storms the waves crash over the sea defences attracting visitors to the town to watch, hear and taste the salty sea.
